Computer with assecories on table

I have habitually written Facebook posts when I’m out traveling. It’s an excellent way to write down what I actually did, put some pictures with it, and at the same time share it with friends and family my adventures.

When I went to Thailand in the summer of 2018 with a bunch of friends, a couple of travel companions thought my posts were nice, since then they didn’t have to write and their parents and friends could track the trip. Once I forgot to make the post public and a mother to one in the group asked if something had happened since there was no post. The responsibility grows 🙂

During the trip I had some trouble with sorting pictures, and adding descriptions, and one day I forgot to add the post to the album I had. When I added in afterward, the pictures got to the back of the album and since Facebook isn’t the best photo album I got a bit frustrated.

So when I went to the USA the year after for the 24th World Scout Jamboree I tried another way to group together the posts related to the trip by creating a Facebook Page where I posted all my updates. It worked nicely, except that the availability dropped unless people started following the page (or I shared every post on my personal wall). Another downside is that Facebook Memories doesn’t pick up those posts, which is half the point.

So now I’m trying a new thing by creating this blog, 20 years after it was a thing. I’ll publish the links to the posts on my wall to spread it and get the memories in the coming years. But after having worked with WordPress at the WSJ 2019 and our local scout troop homepage (www.norrajarva.se) I feel that this will be a much easier platform to work with, even if I get a lesser reach. In the end, I think I’m doing this primarily for me even though it’s really nice if others read it and gets something out of it.

So, after writing this first post, mostly to have something to work with while setting up the site itself, I’m looking forward to sharing my trip to Miami and Florida in September.
