Got up at 5:30, leaving for breakfast fifteen minutes later. Some queue but it was alright.
Met Sandro in the dining hall, nice to meet him four years later. He has some insight into the Wosm organization so it was interesting to get his perspective.

A pond to temporarily store water when it’s raining heavily.

Just got back to my Subcamp in time for my shift at 7. We spent the day checking in units, improving our office, and resting. Early in the morning, excavators entered the site, about six or seven of them. This made our deputy nervous and decided, we couldn’t allow any more, new youth on the sites. A couple of units had to wait in the tunnels (for example) for shade before we could let them enter.

Sweating like a pig, just walking around.

At 14 we had a meeting getting the new plan, with 17 units arriving earliest tomorrow. It involved cooking a team dinner out of the delayed units’ rassions and skipping the dining hall, to make more people available for checking in units before dark.

We kept doing our work, checking in units, and fixing other preparations (I’ve actually forgotten what by now 😛 ). At 18:30 the food arrived. Or at least the first truck with halal food. That was easy enough to unload by a human chain. The second truck, however, had 10 pallets, roughly 350 crates with food to be stored on pallets and inside a cooling container. It took about an hour to unload. Then we started to hand them out. All crates had a label back and front on them stating what unit they were. A few of them had different labels. Some had been sorted into the wrong pile. And one unit probably mixed up their subcamp assignment, so they were missing a dietary requirement. All in all the process took about two and a half hours. We’re hoping to slim this down during the week.

When you had the chance, rest your feet and body.

Since the food delay and because units still popping in, our planned team dinner at 20, got half team at 22 instead. It was delicious and everyone got their food. I’m getting to bed relatively early but am also promised a sleep-in tomorrow, I think I need the rest.

I’ve been quite negative the last couple of days and even today was tough and the weather was really hot, I was pretty okay today. Sure, it would be nice with AC, no sand, and a good bed. But since we got most of our stuff in order, great team and leadership, and we’re seeing excited kids take the grounds, understanding unit leaders regarding our own challenges, it could be worse. We’ll see how it feels when we hit the normal routine.
