First of all, I realized that I never mentioned that I’ll spend two nights in Vienna before going to Bratislava. I thought that since the best flights took me to Vienna and then transfer to Bratislava, why not stay a couple of nights here first.

Woke up a bit earlier than I would have liked to, but got up and took off looking for a cafe for breakfast which I had spotted yesterday. When I got there I found out it’s the same place I rejected for yesterday’s lunch because they only took cash. Realizing that finding a new place could take time I decided to give them a chance. Interesting to find wine on their breakfast menu.

After a decent meal, I went on to today’s first activity, an escape room! Had two questions for them, can a room be solved solo, and can I get an exception from the minimum price of two people, lonely tourist as I am? Yes, and (after a while) a reduction were the answers.

Very nice staff (not just because of the reduction), good room (no padlocks or combinations) and I made it out in about 40 minutes. Rather pleased with myself.

I’m collecting mugs from my trips, preferably odd ones, both in shape and coloring. Found a couple of candidates and got one of them.

Took a quick peek into St. Stephens cathedral. Quite an impressive building. Kept on walking around, looking at parks and big old buildings. Found out that they have the same boxes at traffic lights as we have in Sweden. Also found a big ass screen, seems to be some sort of film festival.

Fika! (And now liquor in the lemonade)

Found a place for some fika. An American sitting at the next table asked the waiter what I got to drink, but seemed disappointed when he heard it was only lemonade without any liquor in it.

Back to the hotel to drop off the mug and take a shower. Shame not to use the fine room

Set off to an Italian restaurant close to a subway station I was going to use. Good but not great food so I skipped dessert. Found a bakery that actually had some buns and not just cake. Bought a couple and brought them with me to the Donaupark. The plan was to take the subway there (hence the choice of restaurant) but I had wandered off after the meal so I took a scooter instead. Rather nice to swoop through the town in the nice weather.

Where I am.

In the park, I set up to join a zoom meeting with Leksand Superstars. Amazing what EU, roaming and a tablet can give you opportunities.

Zoom meeting, in a park, in Vienna. Thank you EU for the free roaming!

After the meeting, I went to the Danube tower, where I could look at Vienna in the night (it had gotten dark, all according to plan) from 150 meters above the ground. Quite windy on the outside deck so I had difficulties keeping the phone steady, and the light indoors prevented any good pictures through the glass. But I got to enjoy the view!

When in the tower, I saw another tower, with a sky bar. So I headed over there, on a scooter of course, through a pitch-black park. 57 stories up I got a drink, looked at the view, and then took a scooter back to the hotel, where I’m sitting now, writing this post and having another drink.

Just some building I saw on the way back. Nicely lit!

Tomorrow it’s time to move on to Bratislava, meet up with some of the others, and one of the main events, a hockey game! But I’ll have one night more in Vienna before flying back home on Monday.
