I had a well-needed good night’s sleep and woke up around 8. Put on the news to see the latest updates about the hurricane heading towards Florida. My plan was to leave relatively early and head down to Miami, which hopefully wouldn’t be hit as hard as Tampa and Orlando.

I’ve been quite calm about this whole hurricane business until this morning when they showed and talked about a section of the road I was supposed to take down to Miami. There were storm winds and heavy rain. Now I started to wonder if it would be dangerous to drive down south. I checked out and got some pancakes for breakfast, some water, a box of cookies, and a couple of ceasar salads with chicken (it turned out they were on the wrong shelf, I got shrimps instead). This in case I would have to pull over somewhere because of the weather.

I left the resort and found myself a gas station, seemed like a good idea to have a full tank for the trip. Then off towards Miami. Except for two times when I had to slow down because I couldn’t see properly through the heavy rain, it was an easy drive.

I stopped at Sawgrass Mills on the way, which I had plans of visiting on Friday since I would drive past it anyway. Found a couple of items, ate some mediocre teriyaki chicken and beef, and then continued to Miami beach. Felt bad for the guy who had forgot his door open on his minivan.

Arrived at the Leslie Hotel at 17 and got my first room. The second one will be just across the hall so the move will be easy. They also offered to move my stuff if I would be away the whole day, I just have to leave it packed.

Went out to find some food. Sat down at a restaurant but after ten minutes of waiting and no one showing an interest in me, I just left. The next place wanted to keep my card at the waiters’ station until I had eaten, which I didn’t really like so I paid my check before I got the food. It wasn’t that good either, the only positive thing was that I could leave as soon as I was finished.

Headed down to the beach to see how it looked and the waves are much bigger than the last time I was here, even though I guess it’s nothing compared to what they see up the west coast of Florida.

Got some more supplies and then headed back to the hotel. Writing the missing blog posts and trying to figure out what to do tomorrow when I still have a car. The weather seems to improve here in Miami and except for a couple of showers, it looks rather warm and sunny.

Just want to finish off with a couple of tweets I’ve seen regarding this hurricane. Just about a week ago, I stood at this point taking a selfie.

And this Monday I drove across this bridge:
