I slept really well this night. Woke up around 9:30, got myself ready, and left for a mall, looking for a charger for my Pixel Watch and maybe someone who can repair the screen on my phone. Some googling yesterday told me that Funan should have a lot of electronic stores.

After initially making a wrong turn which made me walk around a block, I managed to navigate to the mall. It’s as hot in Singapore as it was in Seoul, so I got sweaty just walking 10-15 minutes to the mall. The interior was quite nice, and spacious, including a bunch of climbing walls in the center. I started off with a toast as breakfast and then went from the bottom to the top checking the different stores. Apple and Samsung were the most popular brands. I found one store that had a couple of Google items but they didn’t have what I was looking for. Finally found a phone repair shop and she checked with her back office if they could repair my screen but no, they couldn’t. Seems I have to wait until I come home.

Jonas joined me and we grabbed some lunch in the large food court. We ended up ordering the same thing. Noodles with some protein, not sure what. Quite nice!

We decided to head to the Garden of the Bays and set off to get to the subway. I misread the instructions from Google (again) so we took another detour. On the way, we met two scouts from Bangladesh who also had been to the Jamboree. One of them had even studied in Malmö earlier, close to where Jonas is currently living.

We arrived at this large park complex and walked around for a bit. We stopped for some AC and some cool drinks before continuing. We looked into getting into the Cloud Forest which seem to be a cool place, but we couldn’t order tickets online and the line to the ticket office seemed to be like 40 minutes long (according to a sign). Since I wanted to get back to the hotel to see the semifinal at 16, we split up and I headed back, via Marina Bay Sands resort, to see if and how we could get up to the top. Didn’t find any information, but it sure was a nice building. I guess the rooms cost a bit more than our current accommodation.

I booked a taxi via the app Grab and got back to the hotel and arrived in my room just in time for the game to start. This morning the hotel wifi wasn’t working and I hoped they had resolved the issue now. The setup is that you have your own SSID per room, with the unique password printed on the TV. I could see several other rooms, but not mine so I called the reception and they would send someone from maintenance. Luckily I had my wifi-hotspot so I could stream the game anyway, but I would prefer a more stable landline instead.

As you know, we lost the game. Just when it ended Jonas got back to the hotel and we made plans for the evening. We left at around 18:30 and set off towards the Marina Bays again to watch a water show at 20. On the way, we stopped for some food at Brozeit, a German place that seemed to really like beer. When I pointed out the mocktail I wanted, the waiter said “No, beer!” We all laughed and then ordered a couple of schnitzels. We ate, discussed, and enjoyed the weather. The heat was bearable while sitting still under a fan 🙂

We then left to get to the bay in time and after crossing a couple of roads without a crosswalk and jumping a fence, we got there, just in time for it to start. The show itself was nice. I had expected something more spectacular, but I can’t say how it should have been. It’s fun to have seen it, I’m glad I didn’t pay money for it.

We went into the great luxurious mall that is just beside the water and bumped into a couple of British scouts (of course, who else?). Got something to drink at just sat at the pier looking at the city. It was a quite nice view across the water to see the city and its skyscrapers reaching for the clouds. We walked back to the hotel where I prepared for tonight’s annual meeting with Leksands IF, hoping it won’t last too long into the night.
